The Social Security Administration (SSA) recently announced the addition of several conditions to its Compassionate Allowances programs. This program allows persons with certain medical conditions that are deemed to be very severe attention to have their claims processed faster. The processing time for a claim is typically reduced by several months. Claims that fall under Compassionate Allowances have access to the agency’s special technology that allows it to identify these medically disabling conditions and expedite processing of these claims.
The recently added conditions include:
CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder
This is a condition that is characterized by seizures in infancy. There may be developmental delays, intellectual disability, and impairment in fine motor and gross motor skills. This overwhelmingly affects females.
Pitt – Hopkins Syndrome
This condition is characterized by developmental delays, moderate to severe intellectual disability, impaired fine motor skills and lack of speech/minimal speech.
Primary Peritoneal Cancer
This is a rare form of cancer that affects the sheath that covers the abdominal cavity and the surface of the organs in the abdomen. It can also affect women who have had their ovaries removed.
Richter Syndrome
This is a complication of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia and/or Small Lymphocytic Leukaemia. Symptoms can include sudden weight loss, night sweats, fever, fatigue, dizziness, palpitations, and shortness of breath.
